Description | Course, designed for non-science majors, that surveys topics from physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, and meteorology. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites | Basic Skill competency in reading, writing, and math required. | ||||||||||
Learning Outcomes |
CSLO 1: Develop techniques to set up and perform experiments, collect data from those experiments, and formulate conclusions from an experiment (PSLO 1, 2, 3) mesured by the formal Lab Report. CSLO 2: Demonstrate the collections, analysis, and reporting of data using the scientific method (PSLO 1, 2) mesured by the formal Lab Report. CSLO 3: Record experimental work completely and accurately in laboratory notebooks, and communicate experimental results clearly in written reports (PSLO 1, 2, 3, 4) mesured by the formal Lab Report. |

Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.
The same Textbook (Lecture) will be used for Lab section: Conceptual Physical Science by Paul Hewitt, ed.6, Pearson Addison Wesley, Textbook ISBN-13: 9780134060484 Lower version of Textbook is also accepted. Lab manual has been available in the past, but it is not available at this time. I am in the process of developing new lab manual. We will use Hands-on Experiments and Virtual labs and will be provided during class time. |

1. Late Assignments will NOT be accepted and will result in a zero, except for students who were absent due to illness and have valid proof. Due date: 11: 59 pm Sunday in the same week unless specified. 2. Consistent Participation is strongly encouraged and will affect your final grade. 3. Only regular scientific calculators are permitted during exams/quizzes. All other electronic devices such as cell phones, iPods, computers, etc. are not allowed. 4. All assignments need to be turned in through Blackboard (BB). The handwritten assignments need to be scanned, not photographed. Please follow instructions in "How to turn in assignment(s)" in the Content folder of Blackboard (BB). 5. Each student must write up his or her own Lab and Do not makeup data. Sharing of images or documents are also instances of academic dishonesty, resulting in a grade of zero for that assignment. Grades for the previous assignments will be voided if found academic dishonesty. Repeated instances of academic dishonesty will result in a course grade of "F" and other possible additional academic penalties. 6. Attendance Policy | Perfect attendance is not required, but regular attendance is strongly encouraged and it would affect the final grade. Five unexcused absences will result in an F for the final grade. | ||||||||||
